Shoutout to the guy at the hardware store who asked about my saw setup

I was cutting some 2x4s for a shed base and complaining about the tear-out, and he asked if I was using a zero-clearance insert on my table saw. I had no idea what that was, and after he showed me one, I realized I'd been using the stock insert for three years. Has anyone else had a simple tool mod completely change their results?

Using the stock insert for three years" is the real story here. I think we've all had that one basic thing we just never questioned, like using a dull blade for way too long because you forget sharpening is a thing. That zero clearance insert is a total game changer though, it's wild how much cleaner your cuts get.
