The week I tried to fix my derailleur without a stand

Last Tuesday I decided to adjust my rear derailleur in my apartment parking lot. No bike stand, just flipping the whole bike upside down on the grass. After THREE hours of messing with the limit screws and cable tension, I finally got it shifting smooth. My back was killing me from crouching, but I saved $40 not going to the shop. Has anyone else had a rough time doing drivetrain work without a repair stand?

Man that's rough. It's actually weird how much we tolerate uncomfortable setups just to avoid spending a little money. Reminds me of how people will stand in the kitchen cutting veggies on a wobbly counter instead of just fixing the leg. Or how I used to use a crappy plastic spatula that bent every time I flipped eggs until it finally snapped. Three hours crouched on grass is exactly the kind of stubborn self-reliance that seems normal until you realize a block of wood or a cheap stand would have saved your back and half the time.

Used to think stands were bougie but after doing this once I totally get it now.
