Spent $40 on a 'universal' bottom bracket tool that stripped the splines on my old Peugeot

It was a soft metal piece of junk that rounded off after two uses, and now I need a new BB. Anyone know a solid brand for weird French threads?

Tbh, those soft universal tools are a total trap for old French bikes. I rounded off a BB just like that on my Motobecane. Honestly, your best bet is to find the specific tool for French threads, the splines are always different. I had to order mine online from a vintage parts site after striking out locally. A shop with old stock might have one, but it's getting hard to find.

Ugh, that's the worst. Those cheap universal tools are a total scam for old bikes. They just can't handle the torque. For French threads, you need the real deal. Park Tool makes a solid one, but honestly, I'd hunt down a shop that specializes in vintage stuff. They'll have the right tools and can probably save your BB. Ever tried a local co-op?
