My shop teacher in Akron said never grease a coaster brake hub, and 2 years later it locked up on me
Back in high school auto shop, Mr. Delgado told us coaster brake hubs run dry and adding grease just attracts grit. I ignored that advice when I rebuilt the rear wheel on my Schwinn cruiser and packed it with marine grease anyway. About 2 years later the brake grabbed hard and locked the wheel at the bottom of a hill near Summit Lake, and when I opened it up the grease had turned into this thick paste that glued the shoes to the drum. So was he right for the wrong reason, or am I missing something about how much grease is actually too much?
