I patched tubes with rubber cement for 12 years, then switched to self adhesive patches
Back in the day I kept a tube of rubber cement and a pile of patch kits in my saddle bag, and every flat meant a 20 minute roadside ceremony with sandpaper and waiting for the glue to get tacky. Last spring I grabbed a $6 box of peel and stick patches at a shop in Boise just to try them, and I have not touched the cement since. Do the glue on patches actually hold up longer for anyone here, or am I just fooling myself?

Isn't this just how everything goes? We hold onto the slow painful way of doing stuff because we figure fast and easy must be worse, but half the time that's just habit talking. I did the same thing with shaving, spent years with a brush and soap and now I use the cheap cans and my face can't tell the difference. Those peel and stick patches have been fine for me too, still holding air months later, so unless someone's got a real story about one failing I'd say you're not fooling yourself at all lol.
