Hot take: my shop teacher said 'learn to true a wheel or pay for it forever' and he was right
Back in 2019 I was riding worn brake pads down to the metal on my commuter because a guy at Berkeley Cyclery told me I was 'wasting money' swapping them early. He said buy cheap pads and ride them dead, so I did, and I ended up grinding a groove into a $90 rim on a Tuesday ride home. Now I check pad wear every 200 miles with a flashlight and swap at 1.5mm, no guessing. Anyone else get straight up bad advice from a shop that cost them way more later?
