Cheap chain checker vs the fancy one, guess which one I trust now
I spent $8 on a basic chain wear tool from the hardware store last month because I was tired of guessing when to replace my chain. Meanwhile my buddy keeps pushing me to get the $60 digital caliper version he swears by. I figured what the heck, the cheap one has a go/no-go gauge, how different can it be. Turns out after measuring 3 chains with both, the cheap one flagged wear at 0.75% while the digital said 0.62%, so now I replace a bit earlier and spend way less on cassettes. Anyone else find the budget tools are good enough for home use, or am I just cheaping out and asking for trouble down the road?
