Chain snapped at a red light, now I carry spare links

I was stopped at the intersection of Broadway and 5th last Tuesday when my chain let go with a crack that made the guy next to me laugh. Turned out the master link had been worn for months and I never thought to check it during my quick weekend wipe-downs. Do you all keep a spare chain tool and quick link in a saddle bag, or is that just overkill for casual riding?
