Showerthought: I lugged a full size monitor around Asia for 8 months before I figured out what I was doing to myself
Sitting in a co-working spot in Chiang Mai about 2 years back, I watched this guy next to me pull a tiny tablet out of a pouch the size of a paperback and get straight to work. Meanwhile I was hunched over this 27 inch screen that took up half my carry on, plus a stand, plus a power brick that weighed more than my shoes. I had been hauling that setup through Bangkok, Da Nang, and Taipei, paying extra baggage fees at least 3 times, and I never once asked myself if I actually needed it. What tipped me off was a hostel roommate in Hanoi who asked why I looked so tired all the time when I barely left the room. I was spending my mornings rebuilding a desk setup and my afternoons guarding it in cafes instead of walking around or meeting people. The whole point of this life was supposed to be moving light and working from anywhere, and I had basically built a cubicle that fit in a suitcase. Now I want to know, what piece of gear did you drag around for way too long before you admitted it was slowing you down?
