Can we talk about the $180 'nomad insurance' plan I bought in Chiang Mai that refused my food poisoning claim

I got hit with a 14,000 baht hospital bill in Chiang Mai and the plan I bought online for $180 a year denied it because of a pre-existing condition clause buried in page 9, so does anyone have a policy that actually paid out for a real claim abroad or are we all just guessing?
