Warning: The park near my house just got a digital art light show every weekend.

I saw it last night when I was out walking. They set up big screens that play animations made by local artists. It's free and runs from dusk until ten. The colors and patterns move with music from a small speaker system. It's a neat way to see digital art outside of a gallery.

Can you name any of the local artists?

Actually, focusing on named artists is missing the point. The big gallery names get all the talk, but that whole scene is overrated and pricey. The real good stuff is from people you've never heard of, just making things without the hype. Hunting for specific names just turns art into a checklist instead of actually seeing what's out there. Go wander into any small show or open studio and you'll find way more interesting work. The obsession with knowing the "right" artists is what makes local art feel stuck up.

Check how many of those unknown artists ever get to make a living from it though. I mean, the hype pays the bills.
