Just realized my favorite digital artist uses only 3 layers for entire pieces
I was watching a process video from an artist I follow, and they mentioned they never go above 3 layers in their work. They said it forces them to plan better and stops them from getting lost in endless tweaks. This blew my mind because my own files for a single character portrait often have 30 plus layers. I tried their method on a simple landscape piece last week, and it actually made me finish the piece in 2 hours instead of my usual 6. Has anyone else tried working with a strict layer limit, or is this just a weird flex?

Honestly I forced myself down to 5 layers for a whole month last year. It felt impossible at first but it totally changed how I sketch. You stop thinking about fixing things later and just commit to each mark. Tbh my work got way more confident looking because of it.

What did you do when you hit the layer limit on a sketch that really needed more?
