I used to hate matte finishes, then a mural in Austin flipped me

I always thought matte prints looked washed out next to gloss, but last month I saw a 12-foot matte piece at a studio open house and the texture actually made the colors feel deeper. It kind of clicked that gloss was just bouncing light away from the detail. Has anyone else switched finishes after seeing a big piece in person?

Oh man, same thing happened to me with a big piece at a gallery. Once you see it up close, the gloss just looks cheap and shiny for the sake of it. Matte makes you stop and actually look at the art instead of at your own reflection.
