I finally gave my diesel a proper warm-up every morning after years of rushing
Back when I started, we all just jumped in and drove off, thinking it saved time. That habit led to some rough starts and extra shop visits over the years. I switched to letting it idle for a solid minute before moving, and the difference is clear. My engine runs smoother now, and I've cut down on those annoying cold weather hiccups. It's a small change, but it reminds me how the simple stuff often matters most.

My mechanic in Tucson always says a two-minute warm-up helps diesel engines last longer. But doesn't that just move the wear to things like the starter from all those cold starts?

Idling your diesel every morning is a WASTE of time and money. Modern engines are built to handle cold starts without long warm-ups. You're better off driving gently right away to save fuel and reduce wear.
