Caught a cracked injector cup on a 6.7 right before a cross country haul out of Amarillo
Was doing a routine fuel filter swap on a customer's truck at the shop in Amarillo when I noticed coolant weeping around the number 4 injector. Pulled the cup and sure enough there was a hairline crack, maybe a quarter inch long, that would have let coolant dump straight into the cylinder. Truck was booked for a 1,400 mile run to Oregon the next morning and the owner had no idea. If that cup let go on the road he was looking at a hydrolocked motor and a five figure bill. I got him on the phone, explained what I found, and we pushed the trip back two days to get new cups and a fresh set of O-rings in. So what's your go to for spotting cup issues early, do you pressure test or just eyeball it during filter changes?
