Spent $200 on a folding hand truck for moving tables at our pop up markets, worth every penny
I help run a small design collective here in Portland and we do pop up shows about twice a month. For a year I was hauling folding tables and display boards by hand from my car, usually 4 or 5 trips each way, and my back was killing me. Two months ago I finally dropped $200 on a folding hand truck that converts into a cart. It cut my setup time from about 40 minutes down to 15, and I stopped dreading load in. The only catch is it takes up a chunk of trunk space, so on days I carpool it gets tight. Curious if anyone here has tried those wagon style carts instead, do they handle curbs and gravel okay?
Man, the back pain from hauling stuff by hand is no joke. I did the same thing for craft fairs for a while and by the end of setup day I could barely stand up straight. Dropping from 40 minutes to 15 is huge, that's basically an extra hour of your life back every market. The trunk space thing is real though, especially when you gotta fit another person's gear in there too. As for the wagon carts, I've seen people use them at outdoor markets and they seem to struggle on gravel unless the wheels are the big chunky ones. Curbs are hit or miss, you usually end up lifting the whole thing anyway.
