I counted 41 people using the new bike lane on Elm St in one hour, and I was wrong about it being a waste
I stood at the corner of Elm and 3rd in Portland last Tuesday from 5 to 6pm with a clicker because I thought the city wasted $180k on that protected lane for like 3 riders. I counted 41 people on bikes, 12 on scooters, and even a guy on a skateboard using it, and not one car had to swerve or slow down. So for the folks who design and plan these routes, how do you actually measure whether a lane is working before you build it, or do you just have to wait and count after?
