My dad's old firewall advice finally clicked after 20 years
I was talking to my dad last weekend, the guy who ran a BBS back in the 90s. He said something like, 'you kids trust your router too much, mine runs on a hard no by default.' It hit different this time because I just got a new router last month for $150 and never once touched the firewall settings. He's been telling me to set up a separate guest network since I moved into my apartment in 2021. I finally sat down yesterday and configured it with his old rules: block all incoming, only allow known devices out. Has anyone else had a parent's 20 year old tech advice suddenly make sense?

Had a buddy who ignored his dad's network advice for years until his smart fridge got hacked.
