A waiter on the Norwegian Sun in Alaska told me the one thing he misses from home
Back in 2019 on a chilly morning heading into Juneau, our waiter Andres from the Philippines stopped to chat at our table and mentioned he'd been at sea for 8 months straight. He pointed at the glacier out the window and said it still felt like a postcard he couldn't send to his kids. I've thought about that on every trip since, does anyone else make a point to actually chat with the crew, or do you keep it short at meals?
Wait, 8 months straight without seeing his kids? That is wild to me. I get annoyed when I miss a long weekend at home, so I can't even picture being at sea that long. Now I always make a point to ask the crew where they're from and how long they've been gone, because that quick chat seems to mean a lot to them.
