Found out my local library keeps old local newspapers scanned and searchable
Was digging through a creative writing prompt about family secrets and got stuck on my grandpa's past. He used to run a diner in a town that got wiped off the map by a highway project in the 70s. I figured everything was lost so I gave up. Then a librarian in Duluth told me they archive every local paper since 1880 on this free database. I found his 1963 arrest for feeding a bear in his own kitchen and a recipe he submitted to a cooking contest. It gave me a whole plot idea about a guy who gets famous for a bear story he didn't even write. Has anyone else pulled real historical stuff for a prompt and hit a goldmine like that?

Stop romanticizing a bear and a recipe, it’s just old papers.
