Talked to a guy running a tower crane in Boston about his pre-op check
He told me he spends a full 20 minutes just on the wire rope inspection, looking for a single broken strand. I used to think that was overkill, but he showed me a picture of a snapped line from a job where they skipped it. How much time do you guys actually put into that check?

Hold up, that's not just a check, that's the whole point. Twenty minutes isn't overkill, it's the bare minimum. If you're looking for a single broken strand in a long cable, you have to go slow. Rushing that is how people die. That picture he showed you proves it. Skipping that time is how you end up with a snapped line and a disaster.

That photo could show damage from poor storage, not routine use. Most teams I know do a ten minute check and have perfect safety records. Calling twenty minutes the bare minimum ignores real world results from other places.
