Snapped a hoist cable last Thursday on a job in Akron...

We were lifting a 3-ton HVAC unit onto a roof and a cable on the main hoist just snapped with no warning. The load dropped about six feet before the safety brake caught it, scared the crap out of me. I shut everything down and had to manually lower it with a come-along while my partner pulled the broken cable out. Anyone else ever had a cable fail on a modern crane that wasn't due to obvious wear?

Oh yeah that happened to me last year with a 2 ton hoist, cable just let go mid lift.
