Saw a slick trick for blind lifts at a site in Tacoma last week

They were setting a big HVAC unit on a roof with zero line of sight from the cab. The signal guy had a cheap walkie talkie with a headset, but the real move was the spotter on the roof. He had a small mirror taped to a broom handle, holding it over the edge so he could see the load and the hook. He just talked the operator down inch by inch. Never seen that before. Anyone else have a good workaround for blind spots?

Honestly, that mirror trick is clever but it makes me nervous just thinking about it. All it takes is one gust of wind or a shaky hand and your spotter loses the whole view at the worst moment. I've seen guys try using phone cameras on video calls for the same job, which feels just as risky because of lag. Tbh, sometimes the best workaround is just taking the extra time to move the rig to a spot where you can actually see, even if it's a pain.

That mirror trick is old school genius.
