Got caught in a sudden 40 mph gust while setting a beam in Cleveland last month.
Had to drop the load on the deck and swing the boom to weathervane, something they never really covered in my apprenticeship. How do you guys handle wind shifts on high-rise sites?

Ever notice how the real test is always the thing the manual didn't mention?

That "something they never really covered" part is dead on. A buddy of mine was on a site in Chicago when a squall line came through. His crew had a whole floor of glass panels staged and unsecured. They ended using the crane to lower the pallets back to the ground, just sitting on the deck was too risky. Sometimes you just have to stop the planned work and play defense.
