TIL I was combing out perms all wrong for years

I was working on a client's tight perm in my old salon in Tacoma about 3 months ago. She winced when I started combing from the roots down, and said her old stylist always started at the ends. That simple comment made me stop and think. I tried her way, gently working up, and the curl pattern stayed perfect with zero breakage. I've been doing it the hard way this whole time. Has anyone else picked up a better method from a client?

Crazy how the best tips come from the people in the chair, right? Like learning to mist dry hair before brushing out waves, or using a wide tooth comb on wet curls instead of a brush. It's a good reminder that even with training, there's always a better way to do things if you just listen.

Totally, @abby698. My friend's stylist kept frying her bleached hair with heat until another client told her about olaplex number 3. She tried it on her next appointment and my friend's hair finally stopped breaking off. The stylist admitted she learned more from that one tip than in her last training class.
