Switched my hair straightening method after a client in Dallas schooled me

I used to swear by the heavy ceramic plates, thought they gave the smoothest finish. Then this client with fine, color treated hair kept complaining about breakage, and I kept blaming her upkeep. She finally brought in a stylist friend who showed me how the plate temperature was way too high for her texture. I switched to a lower heat with a titanium tool, and honestly the result was softer and lasted longer... I felt pretty dumb for two years of doing it wrong. Has anyone else had to unlearn a technique that a client basically taught you?
