Rant: Spent two hours trying to match a client's grown-out balayage from a photo

She brought in a picture from 8 months ago, and the formula I mixed just would not grab evenly on her mids and ends. I ended up having to do a full color removal and start over, which took the entire afternoon. What's your go-to method for correcting old, banded color without a full reset?

Ugh, banded color is such a headache, I've had to do a color melt with two different developers before.
