My 68 year old client Doris made me rethink how I hold my shears
So Doris has been coming to me every 5 weeks for a dry cut for going on 3 years now, and two visits back she asks me why I keep my pinky up on the shears. I kind of laughed it off and said thats just how I got taught in school, some lady named Ms. Patterson in Knoxville drilled it into us in 2016 and I never questioned it. Doris tells me she cut hair for 31 years at a shop off Beale Street and she always dropped her pinky, said her hand cramped way less over a full day of cuts. I tried it on her trim right there and my ring finger did half the work for me, way less tension in my palm after 40 minutes. Next day I did a stacked bob on a walk in and normally my hand is screaming by cut number 3, not that time. So now I'm slowly retraining my grip 8 years into doing this and it feels weird but my hand at 6pm feels way better. Any of yall switch up a technique you learned in school after years of doing it the other way?
