I've been holding my shears wrong for three months

A client in my chair today asked if my hand always shook that much when I cut, and I realized I was gripping them way too tight. I switched to a lighter hold like my instructor showed me on day one, and the difference in my control was immediate. How do you all keep from tensing up during a long cut?

Gripping them way too tight" is something I had to unlearn too.

Remember that friend who got killer hand cramps? She was death-gripping her shears through every haircut, just like caseyrivera said they had to unlearn. Her hands would be locked up by her third client. She finally started putting the shears down for ten seconds between sections to shake her hands out. It felt silly but it broke the tension cycle. Now she checks her grip before every cut, like resetting. That simple pause made her work way smoother.
