That $80 survival kit I bought off a shady website saved my bacon last month

I was skeptical but it had a quality fire starter and water filter that actually worked when my car slid into a ditch near Moab. Anyone else ever buy something cheap that ended up being a lifesaver in a weird spot?

Ha, nice! Honestly, I'm way more surprised that shady website actually came through. Usually those mystery bags of gear are just plastic garbage you'd never trust in a real pinch. But hey, a good fire starter and a water filter that actually works? That's pretty much the whole ballgame right there. You got lucky. Most people spend ten times that on brand name stuff that does the same thing.

I read that @ellis.felix is usually right about sketchy gear, but I'd still test that water filter before trusting it.
