Bought a cheap UV light to check hotel rooms for bedbugs... spent 3 hours cleaning fake stains off my walls

I got one of those little UV flashlights off Amazon for like $12 after staying at a Motel 6 in Cleveland. Turned it on in my own bedroom and freaked out seeing glow spots everywhere - thought I had a huge infestation. Took me three whole evenings scrubbing with enzyme cleaner before I realized it was just old fabric softener residue and toothpaste splatter. Has anyone else had a false alarm with those blacklight detectors?

Huh, I read somewhere that a lot of older hotel carpet fibers glow under UV light too.
