Gone from hand floats to power trowels, but my back misses the old way
I mean, I've been finishing for about 11 years now, started out on small residential pads in Fresno. Back then it was all hand floats and knee boards, took forever but you felt every part of the slab. Last 2 years I switched to a ride-on power trowel for anything over 2,000 square feet. It's faster and the finish is way more consistent, sure. But man, my knees and back actually feel worse now, because I'm standing and bouncing around on that machine all day instead of kneeling and spreading the weight out. Idk, maybe it's just me getting older, but I sort of miss the rhythm of hand finishing. Has anyone else made that switch and felt like the physical grind just moved to different joints?
