Forman told me to add water to the mix so it would finish easier, now I'm staring at a crumbly slab
Had a guy with 20 years on me tell me the mix was too stiff for the finish, so I cut it with about a gallon of water mid pour. He said it would flow out nicer and I wouldn't have to fight the float as hard. Fast forward two days and the whole 12x20 pad has a chalky top and you can scrape it with a screwdriver. I know I should've trusted my gut on the slump, but I'm only 3 years in and he was the guy signing my check. Anyone else get burned listening to the old timer who swears the water trick is fine?

Watched my uncle do the exact same thing on his own driveway pour years back and he still swears the mud was bad from the plant. He dumped probably two gallons in a six yard load because the chute guy said it would lay down smoother, and that slab looked fine for about a week. Then it started shedding like a snake in summer, you could sweep up buckets of dust every time a truck rolled over it. He ended up busting the whole thing out with a sledge and redoing it himself on his own dime, which took him three weekends and a lot of cussing. The craziest part is he STILL tells that story like the redi mix company screwed him, never once mentions the water. I bet your foreman will do the same thing when that pad starts falling apart on the next pour too.
