Can we talk about how bad small LCD screens were back in 2005?

Was troubleshooting a point of sale system at a diner in Trenton back in 2005 and the owner got so mad at the grainy screen he threw a coffee cup at the wall, and now I always check the viewing angles before I install anything. Has anyone else had a screen fail on them at the worst possible moment?

Man oh man, you just brought back some memories. I used to run a small repair shop in Philly and I swear half those early 2000s LCD panels would get this weird yellow tint after six months, especially in diner kitchens with all the heat and grease. One time I had a register screen go completely black during the Sunday breakfast rush just because the ribbon cable wiggled loose from the temperature changes. My advice is to always use a bit of electrical tape to secure those ribbon connectors, it saved me a ton of headaches later on.

Gotta disagree with you there @hugo_coleman28. Electrical tape can actually cause more problems in those hot kitchen environments. The adhesive degrades over time and leaves a sticky mess on the connector. Makes it hell to swap out later. I've seen that gunk wick into ribbon cable contacts and cause intermittent failures worse than the original issue. A tiny dab of hot glue on the latch works way better, or just zip tie the cable to the frame if you can. Just my two cents from dealing with those same restaurant POS setups.
