Am I the only one who resets a router before checking anything else?

I keep seeing clients swap out a perfectly good modem because they blamed it for a slow connection, but the real issue was a DHCP conflict from their own static IP setup. Took me 45 minutes in a Denver office last month to untangle that mess after they already bought a $120 replacement. Anyone else run into this where the hardware was never the problem?

My buddy Rick over in Phoenix had this exact thing happen. He spent an hour at a client's house replacing a router that was working fine, only to find out the real issue was the client's kid had set a static IP on their gaming console that was clashing with the DHCP pool. The old router was still sitting in the trash when the client finally told him about the console setup. Rick said he almost felt bad charging them for the new router since he knew it wasn't needed, but they insisted on keeping it anyway. It's crazy how people will drop cash on new hardware before they even bother to check the settings they messed with themselves. That static IP trap gets so many people, I swear it's like the #1 hidden culprit in home networks.
