Rant: Borrowed a pressure washer and got a nasty surprise halfway through

I was up at my neighbor's house in Oak Park last Saturday, cleaning their patio with a pressure washer from our tool library. About 20 minutes in, the hose just split right at the fitting, sending muddy water all over me and the side of their house. I had to shut it down quick and drive 15 minutes back to grab a backup unit they had. Turns out the previous borrower had kinked the hose bad and nobody checked it before I took it. Has anyone else dealt with tools coming back damaged but not flagged in the system?

Oh, so you got the "patio shower AND a side of house rinse" package? Sounds like a bargain at twice the price. Bet that hose kink was from some genius who thought pressure washers work better if you fold the hose in half and stand on it. At least you found out before you pressure-washed the neighbor's cat or something. Gotta love that system where nothing gets flagged until you're wearing half the backyard.

Man, isn't that just the way things go? It’s like that universal rule where the one thing that could go wrong (the hose kink) somehow sneaks past every check and lands right in your lap. I’ve noticed it with everything from home repairs to cooking - the system always seems to have a blind spot for the specific thing that’ll really mess up your day.
