Picked up a router bit set from the tool library instead of buying new
I needed to cut some dados for a bookshelf project last weekend. The hardware store wanted $80 for a basic set of router bits, but our local tool library had a full Freud set for a $5 checkout fee. I grabbed it and honestly the bits were sharp and worked great for the six cuts I needed. The only downside was I had to drive 15 minutes across town during their open hours on Saturday morning. Has anyone else debated between buying cheap gear vs borrowing quality stuff from the library?

Weren't you worried about the bit condition before you started cutting though? I've borrowed chisels from my library before and some of them were beat to hell with nicks in the edge. Router bits are even more picky about being sharp. Did you inspect them under a light before you loaded them in the collet or just trust it and go?

Yeah I feel that concern. I actually ran my finger along the cutting edges before I loaded the first bit and they felt crisp, plus I held it up to the light and didn't see any chips or dull spots. But honestly, how often do you find people actually take the time to really check borrowed tools before they use them?
