My neighbor's 'honor system' tool shed versus our actual library in Minneapolis

His shed was just a tarp over some old wrenches, and I once 'borrowed' a hammer that was actually a petrified bagel. Our real library with a $5 annual fee and a sign-out sheet means I can finally fix my fence without a carb-heavy surprise. Anyone in a co-op have a good system for tracking the really small stuff like drill bits?

Our tool co-op uses a tackle box for all the small hardware. Each little compartment gets a label, and we just note "out/in" on a whiteboard next to it. Lost way fewer bits after that.

I used to be the guy who just threw all the loose screws and bits into an old coffee can. The tackle box idea seemed like extra work for no reason. But after spending twenty minutes looking for a specific sized drill bit last weekend, I get it now. That kind of simple system saves more time than it costs.
