Borrowed a floor sander and got told off for using the wrong grit
Last month I grabbed our library's floor sander to refinish my hallway and a guy named Hank stopped me mid-job to say I was burning through 36 grit way too fast. He showed me how skipping to 60 grit first saves the machine and the wood. Has anyone else gotten advice from a fellow borrower that totally changed their approach?

Honestly, that's just how life works sometimes. People who've already messed up are usually the best teachers for showing you a smoother path.

Oh, totally! I've noticed this pattern everywhere, like when a neighbor showed me the trick to sharpening shovels with a flat file instead of a grinder. People who've already wrecked a tool or wasted time are usually the most generous with their hard-earned shortcuts. It's like that unspoken rule that the best advice comes from someone who's already stepped in the mess so you don't have to.
