Can we talk about the week I tried giving advice to everybody and it backfired 3 times?
So two weeks ago I decided I was going to be the helpful neighbor and got burned for it. Monday I helped my buddy Marcus move a couch up to his third floor walkup off Vine Street and I told him to just push it sideways through the door, and we cracked the door frame. Tuesday I gave my sister advice about her car making a noise, told her it was probably the brakes, and it turned out to be a loose heat shield. $40 at the shop for nothing. Wednesday was the worst one because my coworker Dana asked me about her kid's college stuff and I said something about picking a school close to home, and she just went quiet. Found out later her kid got into a place 6 hours away and she was already upset about it. That whole week made me realize most advice people ask for isn't really a question, it's them wanting to hear a certain answer back. Now I just ask more questions before I say anything. Has anyone else learned to just sit there and nod instead of handing out answers?
