After 8 months of slow work on my front yard, the old guy two doors down stopped me yesterday and said he finally sees the "bones" of the garden coming together. It wasn't anything dramatic, just a simple comment, but it hit different because he's been gardening there for 25 years. Anyone else have a moment where a small sign from someone made the mess feel worth it?

Oh man, I used to think garden compliments were just polite small talk, you know? Like people were just being nice because they felt they had to say something. Isn't it funny how that works with pretty much everything in life? I've noticed the same thing with people who are really into cooking or woodworking or even just fixing old cars. Really makes you wonder who you're actually impressing with the surface stuff versus the real effort.
