Serious question, how do you deal with low visibility during local river inspections?
My town just started a project to check the old pipes under the bridge, and the water is so dark from all the mud. I got sent down yesterday and could not see more than a foot in any direction. What tricks do you use to get your jobs done when you can't see a thing? I heard some divers use special lights, but I'm not sure if that works here.

Special lights just bounce off the mud.

Actually, I have to disagree on this one. I've seen some really good light setups cut right through wet, muddy conditions. It's all about the beam pattern and where you aim them. A wide flood light might just light up the mud in front of you, but a combo beam or a good spot can throw light farther down the trail. Sure, some light gets eaten by the muck, but a proper setup still gives you way more usable vision than nothing at all. It's definitely still worth running them.
