Just hit 1000 hours on my Kirby Morgan hat and the number really got me thinking.

I was doing my gear log after a job in the Gulf last Thursday and the total hit exactly 1000. It's not just a number, it's every minute of bottom time, every inspection, every time I've trusted that thing with my life. It made me realize how much wear and tear that really is on seals, parts, and the whole system, even with good care. I'm suddenly way more aware of tiny sounds and feels I might have brushed off before. It's not broken, but that milestone feels like a hard nudge to start planning for a full rebuild or even a new hat sooner rather than later. Has anyone else had a specific hour count on a major piece of gear that made you change your maintenance plan?

Honestly, a thousand hours on a KM hat sounds like it's just getting broken in properly. That number would make me trust it more, not less.

A thousand hours is a solid run, but it's definitely not just broken in. @harris.emma, that's when rubber starts to get hard and small parts fatigue. My own hat's manual had a service schedule based on hours for a reason. You're right to listen to those new sounds.
