Hot take: I used to skip the pre-dive checklist every time
Ngl, I thought I had it all memorized after 5 years of diving. But last month in the Gulf, my regulator free-flowed on a 60 foot wreck because I didn't check the diaphragm seat. A buddy of mine had to share air while I fought the valve. Now I run through the whole list before every drop. Has anyone else had a close call from skipping the basics?

Had my tank valve o-ring dry rot once, almost had to abort a deep dive right there.

Man that's rough. Had a similar thing happen on a shallow reef dive once. The o-ring just gave out during a pre-dive check. @nathanburns you must have felt that panic in your chest. Getting all the way to the boat and having to call it off is the worst. Better safe than sorry for sure, but still a huge letdown. Glad you caught it before you were down deep.
