Hit 200 commercial dives last month in the Gulf and still can't get over how fast the bottom time slips away once you're past 100 feet

I was keeping a log for a pipeline inspection job near Port Fourchon and realized I'd burned through 30 minutes of my total bottom time in what felt like 10, has anyone else noticed the clock speeds up the deeper you go?

Honestly I think the clock is just messing with us down there. The deeper you go the more time seems to bend, probably because your brain is too busy trying to keep your lungs from exploding to pay attention to the minutes. I've had days where I swear I only did three dives but my log says five, so maybe we're all just getting gas narcosis and time moves slower than we think. Or maybe the bottom is just really good at making you lose track of everything except your next breath. Either way I'm convinced someone swapped my dive watch with a broken one from a thrift store.

Hell yeah, I've been there. Had a buddy who swore his dive computer was haunted because it said he did a 40 minute deco stop but he only checked it twice. Tell you what, if your log doesn't match your memory, check your computer's battery and make sure it's set to the right mode for fresh or salt water. Also, if you're doing multiple dives in a day and not tracking surface intervals right, the computer will pile on time you don't feel. But honestly, some days your brain just checks out and the numbers are what they are.
