Had a real wake-up call about my umbilical routing on a job in Mobile Bay

I was working a salvage job last month, and my tender kept having to give me slack because my umbilical kept catching on the wreck. My supervisor, Mike, finally came over the comm and said, 'You're letting it fall straight down behind you, aren't you?' He was right. I'd been letting it drop to the seabed, creating all that snag risk. He told me to keep a light tension and route it up and over my shoulder, letting it trail above me. Has anyone else had to unlearn a bad umbilical habit like that?

Man, that's such an easy mistake to make. I bet that fix felt like a game changer once you got the hang of it.
