I used to read every single tie-in comic for a big event, now I just wait for the trade

I mean, back in 2015, I was buying like 15 different books a month just to follow Secret Wars. It was a huge drain on my wallet and my time, idk. The change happened maybe two years ago when I realized I was reading stuff I didn't even care about, just for 'completion.' Now, I just wait for the collected edition and read the main story. It's cheaper and I don't feel lost. Has anyone else just given up on trying to follow every single crossover thread?

Totally get that shift in mindset. The companies rely on that completionist urge to sell books that don't stand on their own. You save money and skip the filler by just waiting for the main story collection.

But waiting for the collection means missing out on the whole experience. Those single issues build hype and let you talk about the story as it happens. You lose the fun of guessing what comes next each month. Plus, the art and letters in the floppies are part of the craft that gets lost in a trade. Isn't part of the hobby actually following along?
