After 4 months of Python tutorials I barely learned anything... then I built one stupid project and everything clicked
I spent 4 months doing Codecademy, watching YouTube courses, following along with tutorials. Felt like I was making progress. Then I tried to build my own little todo list app without a tutorial holding my hand and I couldn't do it. Total brick wall. So I dropped the courses cold turkey, picked a tiny project (a workout log), googled every single line as I went, and in 2 weeks I learned more than those 4 months combined. Tutorials give you a false sense of knowledge. Has anyone else hit that point where you realized following along is way different than building from scratch?

Doubt it, tutorials work fine if you actually try solving problems on your own too.

Huh, I actually read this study that said most people learn way better from a mix of tutorials and real practice. Pure self-solving just frustrates people and makes them quit early. Tutorials give you the basics, then you actually get to build on that knowledge.
