The trick with G41/G42 cutter comp on older Haas mills

I spent 3 hours last Friday fighting with tool paths on our 1998 VF-2, getting gouges every time I tried to use cutter compensation on an inside corner. Turns out I needed to activate the comp at least 0.1 inches before the actual contour start, not right on the geometry point. Anyone else run into weird lead-in distance issues with older controls?

0.1 inches sounds crazy early... that's way more than I've ever needed on any machine I've run. My 2001 VF-3 will start gouging if I give it too much lead in. Guess the older ones really are picky about it.

Heard a tech say older Haas controls need a full radius lead-in.
