Picked a 4-flute over a 2-flute for my aluminum job today and it paid off
I was on the fence for my 6061 part since everyone says 2-flute is safer, but I went with the 4-flute at 12k rpm and got a way cleaner finish on the pocket. Has anyone else had good luck running 4-flute on softer alloys?

Picked up a 4-flute for the same reason on some 6061 last week and got a mirror-like finish on a slot I was cutting. My 2-flute always left a bit of a chatter mark that I had to sand out, but the 4-flute just glided through at 10k rpm with zero issues. Might just be my luck though, my last 4-flute snapped when I tried it on a thicker wall, so I'm still figuring this stuff out. What feed rate were you running?

@jana_lewis16 that mirror finish sounds like a dream, I’ve been fighting chatter on some 6061 slots myself. What feed rate were you running at 10k rpm? My 4-flute just chatters worse than my 2-flute on anything thick, so maybe I’m pushing it too slow.
